The NASA KIDS site has lots of interesting astronomy stuff that you may like to check out. The picture below comes from there (see if you can locate it on the NASA site), and shows a spiral galaxy called m100 that is shaped somewhat like our own galaxy (the Milky Way). Our planet, Earth, is way out on one of those spiral arms.
I've always found astronomy pictures fascinating to look at and and think about. But I do think it's a shame when people just look at the beauiful pictures and say "wow" without trying to find out what the picture actually is!
